hello blogosphere!

it’s been a while (again), but here I am!

i won’t even start to apologise for not being here lately..there’s just too much stuff on my plate like…all.the.time!

i’m talking bachelor thesis in progress (gotta hand it in on November 1!! ), project work for every freaking class every freaking day and besides that a lot of organizing and document-stuff to get ready for my internship in January. yup, you read that correctly- i got a great internship! i’m soooo happy and relieved about it and very excited for that new chapter! the internship is in Vienna, meaning that with the dive into the real working world also comes a change of location: i’m moving to Vienna! oh me oh my…you can imagine my excitement-level!

i got incredibly lucky with finding an apartment that is awesome, both location- and expense-wise! my dad actually found the place and next saturday i will see it for the first time- but if it has the “Dad-Approved“-stamp I’m definitely good to go! 😀

so yeah, you see there’s not too much time for doing anything besides going to uni, working in the library, working on my paper and on project-work but I gotta say, I’m still so very happy these times.

and guess what…my 21st birthday was yesterday!

it’s funny how you don’t get that excited anymore with every new birthday…life and stress kinda gets in the way and i seriously felt as if i simply don’t have TIME for birthday at the moment!

year after year that special feeling you got as a child right before each bday fades a little more…but can we accept it all becomes less magical, less special?

I, for one, still believe we need bdays (and christmas etc) to be extraordinary, in the sense of having a break of our odd every-day chores and the dull-ness that sometimes goes with that. I’m not saying I need an enormous party or hundreds of presents, that’s not the point. I believe we should simply make these special days awesome by focusing on ENJOYING our lives and appreciating what we have!

and oh god, I am so blessed. I have an amazing family (even two, counting my bf’s family in!), the most wonderful, caring, loving and committed boyfriend, incredible friends I can always count on and an adorable little doggy. I am just so thankful and happy from the bottom of my heart!

yesterday was the most wonderful day and eventually, it really was special, extraordinary and yes, I would call it magical!

I spent the day with all the people I love and who love me and really felt how blessed I actually am!

today, however, it’s time to get back into working  – but you know what?

as much as it sucks to know hard work is on the to-do-list again, my heart feels still so warm. I know, I know..sounds so cheesy. but heck, I couldn’t care less!;) I loved this birthday and I love my life and all the people I can live it with, and I guess I just needed to write down how grateful I am for that.

so, don’t let life get you down and value these rare, special days. don’t let age take the magic away – cuz you know, that magic we felt as children is still there! we just need to look for it a little harder than before, but it’s there and maybe even more beautiful than it was.

love,

S.

bucket-list 2.0 & resolutions for the 5th semester

it’s the 1st of september already! can you believe it?

i have to confess, after these two awesome months of summer I spent 80% with my beloved family, friends and the bf, i’m excited for the new challenges this upcoming semester will bring about!

this semester, starting on tuesday, is gonna be a little different. It only lasts from September to December and contains all my last classes and exams within this Bachelor program.

Why so short? Well, the 5th semester is, technically speaking, the final semester. This is because the actual last semester (sem6), from January 2014 to May 2014, is supposed to be a full time internship. No classes or courses at the campus, the only occasion you come back for to the campus is to take the final Bachelor Exam in May.

I can’t quite believe I’m so far along already, to be honest here.

Consequently, these last couple of courses are happening from now to December, meaning right now is the time to give it all and fight. Additionally to the regular subjects and exams in this Semester, the first Bachelor Paper is to be written and handed in in November. yup, I said November. yes, I need to get going!;)

I’m glad to tell you that the internship-search-situation has pretty much settled by now, meaning I can cut back worrying and just wait and see. (relieved, here!)

okay, so what was my point again? 😉

I’m excited for this new and important Semester. I am ready to go.

This Semester, there’s no room for excuses, this one is gonna matter, so I’ll better make it count.

An Adventure

I don’t know if I already told you, but the chapter of my life starting right now is pretty much an adventure. Up until now, I’ve had my future, my “next steps“, at least roughly figured out. I knew the direction I was headed to and almost had a “plan”. At this moment, however, it’s different.

Yes, I know that the next steps are to complete this 5th Semester and then do an internship. But after that? It’s pretty much undiscovered territory! I cannot really plan ahead anymore and I admit, this freaks me out a little. But it also comes with the zest of an adventure. It’s all in the open from now on. Oh my!

Know what I mean?

This strange, exciting and a little dangerous feeling that everything is possible and everything is new. All depends on my internship, yes. But I’m not sure what and who I wanna be yet, so I’m gonna find this out while I’m walking.

My Bucket list & resolutions for the indefinite period

As today is the 1st of September and the ultimate kick-off of this new chapter the little list-lover within me felt the urge to set some goals and wishes for the future. Although I don’t know exactly where life is gonna take me, I do know some things I wanna achieve and am curious about how and where I’m gonna be. So let me share my bucket list and some resolutions with you, from now on to an indefinite time!

  • finish 5th semester w/o resits and with awesome grades
  • be all organized
  • see girlfriends regularly during semester, too
  • ZEN a little;)
  • finish 1st Bachelor paper well ahead in time
  • be able to be proud of this Bachelor paper!
  • reflect and question own thoughts & actions continuously – maybe by writing this blog!
  • eat tons of fruit & high carb, vegan meals
  • work out about 3 times a week, each week
  • upgrade wardrobe to make it more “business”-friendly – so mix business /w casual pieces!
  • figure out where next apartment should be & how to finance it
  • give my best at work (internship)
  • build up network (career)
  • figure out what to do next: do a master? longer/more internships? work for a while?
  • have own, cozy apartment where having a cat/dog is allowed
  • adopt a cat/dog
  • get a hammock;)
  • have balcony in apartment
  • go on great vacation with the bf (financed by ourselves)
  • be more financially independent to help parents
  • see & spend quality time with family regularly
  • call grandmas more often & give sth back
  • write & record song(s) with the bf
  • get back into drawing
  • get new tattoo
  • clean apartment regularly

so this is all i can think of right now! i think i’ll come back to this post & update it from time to time..maybe add more and hopefully cross stuff off the list!

i can only highly recommend having a bucket/goal list. it really improves focus and provides some guidance on your path. plus, crossing stuff off it is amazing! 🙂

i wish you a great day and all the best for this fall! you are very welcome to share your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned for my fall posts! think seasonal fall comfort food, halloween, my birthday, …haha;)

xoxo,

post – gig & pre – college day.

i’ve never had a post -gig & pre -college day before.

i’ve had quite a lot post – gig days, yes, but it happens i’ve never had a pre -college day before.

this is, because i’ve never been to a college until tomorrow.

yes, i attended a few courses at the university last year, but tomorrow is different. tomorrow i’m gonna be a freshman student at the FH, which is gonna be my real college for at least the next 3 years.

am i excited?

hell, YES!!

i also had a gig with “Oh, I Taste The Queen” last night, which means, it was waaaay cool, but today i’m really groggy.

my metabolism is quite fast, which means i naturally burn a lot of calories.

therefore i need some extra-energy when being exhausted- and of course, i expect it to be delicious!

though i want to eat healthy, mostly unprocessed & of course vegan food!

i’m simply concerned that my body can use this kind of food the best way possible.

more, i’m pretty nervous about tomorrow, which normally means i eat less. stress & unhappiness always lead to not feeling hungry & losing weight, wich i cannot afford.

taking that into account, i need my food extra-extra yummy on such an important day!

here is what i recommend:

HOMEMADE GRANOLA

sweet, crunchy, healthy. what more could a girl want?

need caffein?

why not get really naughty & combine the granola with a chai-coffee shake?

oh, and don’t forget the extra-energy.

i chose nuts (almonds, pecans, cashews) & mixed them into the granola.

yes please.

i told ya, energy! 🙂

did you know i’m always craving fruit after a long night?

it’s as if the vitamins were calling my name.

i can’t escape!

speaking of vitamins: lots of veggies are perfect for a stressed out day.

for me, they just work, by not being heavy & saving me from having an empty stomach.

i figured i’m gonna need a lot of packed lunch when i’m in college.

so you tell me: what’s easier than bringing sandwiches?

therefore, i created my own SPREAD RECIPE today.

i’m sure you all know “hummus“.

see, even Zohan knows & loves it!

my boyfriends loves this movie! 😉

BUT, he had no idea what hummus was, until i explained it to him:

hummus, or “humus”, is a spread or dip made of mainly chickpeas. it’s savory & there are a number of different kinds of hummus. it’s very healthy, for it’s rich in protein, and tastes fantastically!

me, i had no chickpeas at hand, but what i did have, was LENTILS.

i really like the saying “everything in moderation“, cuz it’s true in most situations. as in my lentil-spread recipe!

it’s really easy & there’s a lot of room for taste – experiments.

and here it is:

“EVERYTHING IN MODERATION – SPREAD”

you need:

– 1 1/2 c. cooked lentils, drained & rinsed

soy sauce

salt, pepper

spices: chili, oregano, basil, curcuma, majoram, garlic-powder, caraway-seeds; (omit what you don’t like & add what you like)

– a little water

1.) take the lentils & mash them with a hand-held blender

2.) add a little water & 2-3 T soy-sauce.

then start to add the salt, pepper & the spices you wanna use.

i used a whole lot of different ones. as long as you stick to “everything in moderation“, you can’t go wrong!

3.) that’s it! almost too easy to be called a “recipe”, huh? 🙂

no, i’m serious. just trust your tastebuds & try whatever you like!

this spread can be used as a regular spread on toast, bread or whatever, as a dip for veggies or tortilla chips or eaten by the spoonful!

i tried it on top of a cherry-tomato..

the tomato & me, we kinda liked it’s spread-hat! 🙂

oh, & because it’s the day inbetween 2 special days today, i thought i’d give you some extra-goodie.

maybe anyone is interested in my stage make-up?

it varies a little from gig to gig, but this is how i did it yesterday:

i always feel like a circus-clown before i enter the stage when being painted like this! 😉

tell me what’cha think about it!

so, wish me a good first day at college tomorrow!

your freshgirl,

VOICE TIPS for singers

any singers out there?

this post is dedicated to all the lovely and stunning voices this world has beared.

this posts topic is my experience in how to take care of your voice.

i am a singer and would love to stay this way, which is why it is important to treat my instrument very well.

having done several concerts before and having attended some vocal classes, i kind of collected some tips and tricks on how to look after my voice, which i want to share with you.

if you’re a singer, your body is your instrument.

health and training is all you got, and a cold can sometimes really mess it all up.

i am no professional voice choach or doctor, all i do is sharing my experiences, and since all our bodies are different, you need to find your own methods, but if you’re lucky, these tips might also work in your situation.

here are my personal recommendations:

1.) in general:

try to lead a healthy lifestyle. eat well, try to get enough sleep, work out and also try to get some balance „inside“.

meet friends and go out, but also take your time to relax and for yourself.

2.) diet:

especially a couple of days bevor your concert starts, mind, what you eat and drink.

since milk and dairy-products are known to harmful your voice by congesting it with mucous, a vegan diet is perfect for singers.

meat also does no good job when it comes to singing, because your body has to work hard to digest it, which, of course, is very hindering  & annoying on stage.

again, vegan foods are much better for your fitness and voice-capability.

it has also been said, that nuts and seeds are not that helpful when consuming them before singing.

i never had problems with any of them, but some singers would strongly discourage you from eating nuts or seeds.

you need to find out, if you don’t mind or if they cause you any problems!

another interesting fact i learned just recently ist hat too much vitamin C is bad for your voice.

therefore, you should avoid consuming too much citrus fruits and any other food containing a lot of vit. c!

eat wholefoods, as unprocessed as possible.

whole grains, veggies, not too much fruit(vit. c!), plantbased protein like lentils, beans, chickpeas, tofu will help your voice to be fine.

3.) little helpers:

– TEA!

tea is really great when it comes to singing, but remember to not drink it too hot.

   try camomile- & sage-tea.

for me, tea works best when sweetened a little with maple syrup and some mylk, but again this is up to your body.

* try adding a little ginger(-powder) to your tea or food! ginger has saved me many times.

 – bonbons!

i’m not kidding, try different kinds of herbal hard candy and see if any of them help.

(buy some without too much sugar and sans gelatine!)

– immune system

take care of your immune system!

of course, this should always bet the case, but if you’re a singer, it’s even more important.

keep the diet tips in mind and avoid to get too cold.

and don’t underestimate the sleep!

you should really try to get enough of it, so you can be fit and feel great when on stage.

4.)   what to do when your voice is already poor?

first, you should go after all the tips i mentioned before.

in an acute voice emergency, avoid speaking, but also whispering.

maybe you could get a small blackboard and simply write down what you wanted to say! 😉

no, i’m serious. don’t overcharge your voice, take time to rest and drink tea, tea, tea!

are you a “snacker”?

do you like to stroll around in your house, looking for something delicious you could put into your mouth?

are there some kinds of foods around that keep on calling “eat me, eat me!”, everytime you pass them?

do you prefer several smaller meals over the mainstream 3 big meals?

– if so: welcome to the club!

you are a “SNACKER”.

maybe you’re asking yourself right now: “oh my goodness..- is it cool to be a >snacker<?”

well. i can only speak for myself, but in my opinion, it is very cool! 😉

why?

you can snack your way through your day and eat much more various, different & interesting food than you would if you weren’t a snacker.

another reason is, you never get too hungry and won’t ever feel too full.

also, it’s healthier, to eat smaller, balanced meals over the day than 3 huge portions.

so, let’s get snacky!

here come the TOP 3 of  my fav. snacks..

1.)

this is one of the easiest things to make, and still it’s kinda my all time favourite: APPLE-BITES, topped with some cinnamon and pure lemon-juice. healthy and tasty!

by the way, it could be said that fruit is my favorite snack, in general. “FAST FOOD“, packed with vitamins! yay.

2.)

another “all time classic”!

TRAIL MIX, in austria known as “students-food“, which is a mixture of nuts such as almonds, cashews, pecans etc., and raisins. there are various things to additionally pack into trail-mixes, like seeds or dried cranberries.

this snack is loaded with energy and taste, contains healthy fats and minerals. it’s good for your heart and contains substances that perfectly work against stress. now we all know why it’s also known as “students-food”! 😉

3.)

i knooooow. these little friends are not really filmstar-beauties. they’re not that photogenic, but nevertheless i love them.

DRIED FIGS  are known to be very healthy and provide you with good energy. they taste very sweet and have to be stored in the fridge, unless you eat all of them at once (me? yeah, i know i’m strange).

have you noticed? i just mentioned sweet snacks. as said before, i also highly appreciate every kind of fruit. think: oranges, bananas, peaches, grapes, pineapples and so on. fresh, sweet, cheap & uncomplicated! 🙂

but, from time to time i also long for savory snacks.

personally, i like hot & spicy tofu – slices, raw veggies, roasted beans/chickpeas and huge salads.

i could go on like this forever! 😉

what about your fav. snacks?

if you want, leave a comment and tell me your preferences when it comes to snacks!

i’m curious! 🙂

now, time for some musical snack!

some days ago my good friend L. & me did a small recording session of a song by jessie j. if anyone is interested in the outcome, click the link to see the video of our cover version on youtube!

“Who You Are” Acoustic Version

one more thing: i told you in the last post i would shop for some nice decorations for my new room.

here’s what i got:

..rocking it on my walls..

…so does this cute pal…

..as well as my beloved “epiphone”-poster!

BUT… who rocks it the most?

my fluffy “broccoli-boy“!

🙂

stay snacky,

s.

Band – update!

hey y’all! 🙂

as i promised, i am now writing an entire post about my one and only band: “Oh, I Taste The Queen”!

if you’re interested, go visit us at http://www.facebook.com/ohitastethequeen!

i’m just gonna copy  paste what’s written in the “about”-section on our facebook-page, so you get the idea:

Oh, I Taste The Queen” was born in march 2011, when Michi&Michi, Nico, Gregor and Saskia bumped into each other in a small rehearsal room in lovely & rocking Vienna.
Soon the 5 of them, each with his/her own musical history with several other bands and projects, found that the chemistry between them was just right, on both the personal and the musical level.

The band made its debut at the “BERGWERK” (Neusiedl) on 17.June 2011 by rocking the stage along with the local bands “Schilfgürtel” and “Gravitation”.
Songs were written at high speed, a gig at the “BORG Wr.Neustadt” school festival in july 2011 followed, and eventually the band made it into the final of the “America Is Waiting”-contest, which is run by the Landesjugendreferat Burgenland and was held at the legendary “Cselley Mühle” (Oslip).

Totally unexpected “Oh, I Taste The Queen” won the contest, which opened up some promising opportunities for the band: 100 copies of the “live-performance at the final, a gig at the “Picture On Festival” (Bildein), a number of other gigs and 5 days in the “Webros” recording studio.

The band all in all is highly motivated to develop, play shows, write more and more songs and, what’s most important: to ENJOY playing music!

What’s one of the most remarkable features of the young band is that there is no “leader” in the common sense, for all the songs are written together.
“Oh, I Taste The Queen” combines artistically challenging music and “catchy tunes”, by writing songs that are appealing, but far from boring, the members kind of express themselves through their music, which guarantees the songs to be authentic and lively.

i totally like LOVE my guys, they’re awesome! 🙂

here are some pics of us rocking the stage:

what can i say?

i love us! ;P

see you,
